Fund a Manta Pacific wallet before your first purchase

Manta Pacific’s Chain ID is 169, and funding it before a first purchase means getting both ETH for network fees and the asset you intend to trade onto that network. The wallet address can stay the same across EVM networks, but the balances on each network are separate.

That distinction is the common source of a failed first trade: ETH on Ethereum is not the ETH your wallet can spend on Manta Pacific. You need to check the selected network and the asset balance before connecting to a trading app.

What do you need in a Manta Pacific wallet?

You need ETH on Manta Pacific to pay transaction fees, plus the token you plan to buy with. ETH is the network’s gas token, so even a wallet funded with USDC or another supported token needs a little ETH for the purchase transaction.

Gas is the fee paid to process an on-chain action. A swap usually needs at least one transaction, and the app may ask for another approval transaction before it can use a token. Keep enough ETH aside for those fees instead of spending the entire balance on the trade.

The token you plan to buy also needs to be available on Manta Pacific. A token with the same name on another network may be a different asset, so check the network and token contract in the trading app before you approve a swap.

How can you move funds onto Manta Pacific?

If your funds are on Ethereum, the native Manta bridge can move ETH and supported Ethereum tokens to Manta Pacific. The deposit starts with a transaction on Ethereum; after it confirms, the destination balance appears on Manta Pacific, generally within minutes.

Bridge deposits and withdrawals have different timelines and costs. For a fuller explanation of how Manta bridge deposits and exits work, see the linked guide; an Ethereum deposit costs source-network gas, while a return withdrawal follows a longer exit process.

If your funds are already on another network, the native bridge may not offer a direct route from there. A third-party bridge or an exchange withdrawal can be another path, but support varies by provider and asset. Confirm that the route delivers to Manta Pacific and that the receiving wallet address is yours.

Before you choose, compare the amount that will arrive and what you will pay on both networks:

  • ETH deposit: straightforward and leaves you with the gas token needed for your first transaction.
  • Token deposit: convenient if the token is supported, but you may still need ETH on Manta Pacific for gas.
  • Other-network route: can avoid starting from Ethereum, but adds a provider’s route, fees, and asset support to check.

For a small first transfer, the Ethereum fee can take a larger share of the amount than it would for a larger deposit. Look at the quoted destination amount and fee before signing, rather than judging a route by its advertised speed alone.

What are the steps to fund the wallet?

For a first deposit from Ethereum, use this sequence:

  1. Open the Manta bridge from a trusted Manta source, connect your wallet, and confirm that Ethereum is the source and Manta Pacific is the destination.
  2. Choose ETH or a supported token. Review the fee and destination amount, then sign the deposit transaction in your wallet.
  3. Wait for the Ethereum transaction to confirm. Switch the wallet to Manta Pacific and check that the funds arrived at the intended address.
  4. If you deposited a token rather than ETH, make sure the wallet also has Manta Pacific ETH for gas before attempting a purchase.

Wallet software may ask to add Manta Pacific as a network. Check the network details before accepting. The mainnet Chain ID is 169, and the network’s official information page lists its RPC and block explorer.

How do you check the wallet before buying?

First, select Manta Pacific in the wallet and confirm that its ETH balance is visible. Then check the token balance and the trading app’s displayed network. If either balance is missing, pause and inspect the transaction history or address on the network’s block explorer.

Check the bridge site’s exact domain before connecting. Review each wallet prompt, including token approvals, and do not share a recovery phrase or private key with a site or person claiming to help. A bridge deposit is an on-chain transaction, so a wrong destination or unsupported asset can be difficult to recover.

For most first-time users, a modest ETH deposit is the simplest starting point: it gives you gas and leaves you able to make a small test purchase. Add the purchase asset once you know it is supported and can verify its balance on Manta Pacific.
