JPMorgan Takes JPM Coin to Ethereum for Institutional Clients
JPMorgan has brought its dollar deposit token to Ethereum, giving institutional clients another public blockchain for peer-to-peer transfers and onchain activity.

More than $4 trillion in cumulative transactions have passed through JPMorgan’s Kinexys platform, and the bank has now brought its JPM Coin deposit token to Ethereum for institutional clients. The move adds Ethereum to the public blockchain options for transfers of tokenized dollars, according to The Block’s report on the announcement.
JPM Coin, with the ticker JPMD, represents U.S. dollar deposits held at JPMorgan. Kinexys, the bank’s blockchain division, said the token supports peer-to-peer transfers within the Ethereum Virtual Machine ecosystem, including Ethereum and Base.
What can institutional clients do with JPM Coin on Ethereum?
Clients can use JPMD to make transfers between compatible wallets on Ethereum, extending a service that was already available on Base. The token represents bank deposits rather than a new cryptocurrency issued independently of the bank.
JPMorgan says the expansion is intended to support onchain payments and provide a liquidity layer for dollar deposits. The Ethereum Virtual Machine, or EVM, is the software environment used by Ethereum and compatible networks such as Base. Support across that ecosystem gives institutional clients access to JPMD on more than one public blockchain.
The bank cited Ethereum’s existing liquidity and tokenized assets as reasons for adding the network. Emma Landriault, global head of Kinexys Labs, said in the statement that Ethereum was a natural next public blockchain for JPMD.
How does the Ethereum launch build on JPM Coin’s rollout?
JPMorgan first made JPMD available to institutional clients on Base in November 2025, after months of testing. The Block’s report on that launch said the token was designed for near-instant settlement around the clock.
At the time, the bank said clients could send and receive JPMD on Base. The latest expansion brings the token to Ethereum as well, while retaining its role as a representation of deposits at JPMorgan. The reports do not say that JPMD is available to retail customers.
The expansion also builds on Kinexys’s existing activity. The bank said the platform had processed more than $4 trillion in cumulative transactions and averaged $7 billion in daily transaction volume. Those figures cover the platform overall; JPMorgan did not say how much of that activity involved JPMD.
Why did JPMorgan choose Ethereum?
Kinexys pointed to Ethereum’s onchain liquidity and tokenized assets. That gives the bank’s institutional clients another network where they can transfer JPMD and interact with tokenized assets, according to the announcement.
The launch links JPMorgan’s deposit token to a public blockchain used for tokenized financial activity. It also adds Ethereum to a network choice that already included Base. For you, the key distinction is that JPMD represents deposits at JPMorgan, while the Ethereum network provides the infrastructure for transferring the token.
Kinexys reported that its platform averages $7 billion in daily transactions, but it did not give a separate volume figure for JPM Coin or say how much activity the Ethereum rollout is expected to attract. The announcement confirms the expanded network support and institutional use; it does not quantify likely adoption.
